Editing position papers

We regularly edit complex technical content to make it more accessible and consistent. Often we work in subject areas that are new to us. We quickly get to grips with new specialist fields, taking the time to research topics and get to grips with key concepts and vocabulary.

We edit position papers for organisations such as the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association. The process includes building a glossary of technical terms and proper names so we can ensure these are consistent within and between documents. We also standardise spellings using either UK or US English, based on each client’s preferences. Rather than simply copy-edit content, we take a global look at it. Where necessary, we suggest changes to the running order and rewrite sentences or paragraphs to improve the flow. All changes are tracked, which means the client can check and verify them – although in practice almost all our suggested changes are accepted without modification.
